Taken from abstract in report: 'In 1999, the National Park Service conducted a census of hiking trails in Acadia National Park. The purpose of the census was to establish a data baseline for monitoring visitor use of hiking trails within the park. A total of 4,817 hikers were counted on Acadia's trails during the two days of the census. The results of the census will be useful in the development of a Trails Plan for the park, for planning bus system routes, and for providing information on visitor use for trail maintenance.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/
