'Eleven lots of age I+ fall yearling landlocked Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) were planted at Long Pond, Mount Desert Island, Maine between 1952 and 1969 to permit evaluation of relationship between planting rate and growth, and planting rate and yield.' 'There was a significant inverse linear relationship between stocking density and growth, and between stocking density and yield. Salmon recoveries averaged 5.7% for all plantings combined, but ranged up to 45+- 4% for one lot. Mean weighted annual catch per hectare/1,000 salmon stocked was 0.25+- 0.10 fish and 0.19+- 0.09 kg. Combined unweighted catch per angler day for all lots in all years was 0.183 +- 0.036 fish. Mean angler trips per year was 785+- 53 and hours per trip was 4.41 +- 0.23 (winter and summer combined). Ice fishing effort accounted for 26.1% of total effort and 36.0% of total catch. There is a significant linear relationship between winter catch and total annual catch at Long Pond. There is a significant linear (logarithmic) relationship between stocking density and growth.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Long Pond/
