A Census of Hiking Trail Use in Acadia National Park: August 7 and 8, 2001

Jacobi C. 2001. A Census of Hiking Trail Use in Acadia National Park: August 7 and 8, 2001. Acadia National Park Natural Resources Report Number 2001-10. Acadia National Park. Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, Maine

From the executive summary: "In 2001, the National Park Service conducted a census of hikers on most of the hiking trails in Acadia National Park. The census is part of a monitoring program of hiker use of park trails. A total of 6, 151 hikers were counted on Acadia's trails during the census, which took place on August 7 and 8. Results were much higher than previous censuses because the count at Bass Harbor Lighthouse was more than double previous years (up 600), and because we counted one large hiking group of over 100 persons on both days." /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ACADIA NATIONAL PARK/MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/
