'Myrmica rubra is an introduced ant that presently occurs on Mount Desert Island, Maine, in the vicinity of Acadia National Park, where its painful sting has created problems for residents.' 'Field trails were conducted with 0.73% hydramethylnon in a granular ant bait (Amdro) for control of the imported and, Myrmica rubra Latreille. Application to a linear plot (3.05 x 22.86 m) resulted in 92.9% control for the week after application, with subsequent declining levels of control and no control outside the treated area. This material can control M. rubra, but further study is needed on the relationship between distribution of treatment and spatial and temporal distribution of effects, and on the potential for nontarget effects when used in or near natural areas.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Eagle Lake Road/
