'On August 1 and 3, 2000 the National Park Service conducted a census of hikers at 50 trailheads throughout Acadia National Park. The census was part of an annual program to monitor trail use.' From the abstract: "In 2000, the National Park Service conducted a census of hikers on most of the hiking trails in Acadia National Park. The census is part of a monitoring program of hiker use of park trails. A total of 5,096 hikers were counted on Acadia's trails during the two days of the census.
