Integrated Coastal Ecosystem Science in the Northeast

Patuxtent Wildlife Research Center. 2001. Integrated Coastal Ecosystem Science in the Northeast. PWRC Fact Sheet 2001-28. Dept. of the Interior, USGS Biological Resources Division. Laurel, MD

This is a brief description of what the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center (PWRC) is doing to assist in answering questions about threats to coastal zones in the Northeast resulting from development and land use practices. The only part that discussed ANP specifically was related to tools being used to monitor and predict effects of nutrient enrichment on estuaries. 'Efforts focus on defining critical thresholds of nutrient enrichment causing shifts in ecosystem structure and function, linking nutrient loads to land use in the watershed, and identifying indicators of estuarine condition.'
