Determination of base flood elevation Echo Lake beach facility, Acadia National Park Southwest Harbor, Maine

Chelminski MR and National Park Service, Acadia National Park. 2004. Determination of base flood elevation Echo Lake beach facility, Acadia National Park Southwest Harbor, Maine. Topsham, Maine

Following taken from report's executive summary: 'This study was performed on behalf of the United States National Park Service to determine the base flood elevation in the immediate vicinity of the Echo Lake beach facility (Southwest Harbor tax map 22, lot No. 16, Mount Desert Tax map 7, lot no. 88) in Acadia National Park, Southwest Harbor, Maine. The purpose of this study was to determine whether structures proposed as part of a facilities rehabilitation project at Echo Lake Beach facility would be situated within the 100-year floodplain of Lurvey Brook or Echo Lake. The need for the study was based on a review of Federal Emergency Management Agency Flood Insurance Rate Map Community-Panel number 230293 0015 B (town of Southwest Harbor, Maine effective date June 3, 1991), which appears to show that a changing room to be constructed as part of the proposed rehabilitation work would occur within the previously delineated 'A' flood zone.' 'A detailed analysis was therefore performed to determine the 1-percent annual chance event (i.e., 100-year) base flood elevation along Lurvey Brook and in Echo Lake adjacent to the proposed rehabilitation work. The study results indicate that the base flood elevation of Lurvey Brook and Echo Lake adjacent to the proposed structures is 82.6 feet, which is 4.9 feet below the proposed finished floor elevation of 87.5 feet.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Echo Lake/ Echo Lake Beach/Lurvey Brook/
