Use of microsatellites to characterize Fucus distichus populations at Schoodic Point and Chamberlain. From Abstract, 'Patterns of migration, colonization and genetic structure of organisms are crucial in understanding ecological processes such as dispersal and speciation. This is particularly important in metapopulations that are characterized by patches or fragments of habitat where dispersal and gene flow may be restricted. Here, we describe dynamic changes in an intertidal marine metapopulation and identify a novel mechanism which allows dispersal where it would otherwise be limited.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /SCHOODIC POINT/
