'During the summer of 2004, Park rangers discovered the existence of unauthorized trails and structures in an area of Acadia National Park located northeast of Bass Harbor light and southwest of Ship Harbor. On 22 September, 2004, we accompanied Ranger Arthur Shuttle to inspect and evaluate resource damage at this site.' The report continues to document and assess the impact of illegal trails and a structure to the area and recommends the removal of structures and trails inhibiting their continued use. Restoration of the Bryophyte community of the area is of concern due to the slow growth rate and lack of planting stock; therefore, bryophyte recovery to original levels will be slow.
