Stephen BJ. 2007. A survey of the freshwater snails of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park.. National Park Service
FIELD WORK: 15-28 June 2007. The following is from the absract: 'A survey of aquatic snails was performed throughout Mount Desert Island primarily within Acadia National Park in the summer of 2007. Shallow water areas of 30 aquatic habitats were examined. Additional sample sites were given a cursory examination. Snails were found by visual examination of the bottom substrate, vegetation and shallow water structures. Shoreline waters and structures were also swept with small hand nets and larger dip nets. ' 'Live snails or shells were found at 16 of the sites. Eight species of snail, one prosobranch and six pulmonates, were discovered and collected for a total of 32 records. Chemical and physical data including Calcium levels, pH, and bottom substrate were obtained for collection sites. This area has not previously been surveyed for aquatic snails and thus this study provides the first look at the gastropod biodiversity in the region.' Report includes an appendix titled 'A brief identification guide to the freshwater snails of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park : an appendix to : A survey of the freshwater snails of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park' GIS-CATEGORY 1 ; Contains a table of coordinates for sample sites where species were found.
