Follwing from abstract: ... '... two separate goals: 1) establishing permanent plots for monitoring changes in vascular plant and sphagnum moss abundance in the open emergent areas of Big Heath; and 2) investigating larger-scale controls on Sphagnum abundance and composition within isolated wetlands throughout Mount Desert Island.' -------------- Report notes that at least 42 species of Sphagnum (including one putative new species) on Mount Desert Island (species not listed in report). Established 15 permanent plots in Big Heath (coordinates of plot not listed in report). Research recommendations (from executive summary): 'Future research on Sphagnum in ANP should focus on developing a better inventory of park-wide species diversity and a comparison to regional Sphagnum diversity. Continued monitoring of Big Heath permanent plots and wetland pollution levels (via specific conductivity) is also needed.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Big Heath/
