'Purpose and Scope: The apartment Building, also known as the Rockefeller Building, is one of three extant buildings that were constructed as part of the U.S. Naval Radio Station, Winter Harbor, Maine, 1934. The current project is focused on the Apartment Building and immediate adjacent landscape as identified in Project Management Information System (PMIF) 134906. The U.S. Naval Radio Station Apartment Building (Bldg 1), Historic Structure Report (HSR) identifies significant historic features of the building and provides guidance for the treatment of the building. The project included archival research at the local and regional level, along with building investigation and research. The project was phased over two fiscal years (FY 2008 and FY 2009) and culminated in the HSR. In accordance with National Park Service (NPS) standards and as outlined in Director's Order 28, the HSR contains Part 1. Developmental History that includes sections on Historical Background and Context ,Chronology of Development and Use, and Current Physical Description. The HSR also includes and additional subsection to Part 1 in the form of Character Defining Features (CDFs) and General Recommendations for the Apartment Building. Identification of the CDFs will assist in guiding appropriate repairs and improvements, including fire-detection and suppression systems, universal access, and potential modifications to accommodate new uses. The report does not include Part 2. Treatment and Use or part 3.
