Carriage Road Census Data 2001 - 2002
Jacobi C. 2002. Re: Carriage Road Census Data 2001 - 2002
Methods and data on Carriage Road use in 2001 and 2002. From the document: "This is a summary reporting of carriage road census data from 2001-2002 with an overview of methods and metadata, with limited data analysis and explanations, and no formal write up. The purpose of the memorandum is to place in the bibliography a permanent record of important data for which there is no formal report. A vast body of research and monitoring literature is available for carriage road visitor use and experiences, most of which is in the park's bibliography. This includes research reports from the University of Vermont for work conducted between 1994 and 1996, and, since 1997, monitoring reports for each year. We conducted the first carriage road census in 1994. The results prompted a continuation of censuses from 1995 1997 which were used to develop a regression estimator of daily carriage road use based on counts from an electronic trail counter. In 2001 and 2002, we recalibrated the regression with another set of twelve censuses. In both cases, censuses were only concerned with total use of the carriage roads on the census days for use in the regression analysis. Each carriage road monitoring report contains the total use from the census data and the regression analysis in an appendix. More detailed 2001-2002 census data on User Types, Location of Entry, and Hour of Entry was collected each census day and compiled in Quattro Pro spreadsheets but never analyzed in depth. This 2001-2002 data was also never archived in the bibliography. This memorandum accomplishes these tasks for the 2001-2002 censuses. We copied and pasted the original 2001-2002 Quattro Pro data into Excel where we analyzed and organized it similar to the 1995 1997 censuses, which we reported on in a similar memorandum dated 1/28/10.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Carriage Roads/
