A description of the carrying capacity of the Carriage Roads. The Executive Summary: "Though bad weather and cobwebs compromised all data for July, we have not previously found any days in July to approach a violation of the crowding standard. Sixteen days in August had more than 2,000 estimated carriage road visitors. The highest daily use estimate was 2,547 on August 4, not nearly high enough to pass our 80% one-tailed confidence level test for the 3,000 visitor-per-day standard. Crowding standards were not violated in 2009. Mean daily use limits were higher than in most previous years, and the past four Augusts have shown consistently high use. Fourteen years of data still show no trend of either increasing or decreasing use. Carriage road use monitoring will continue in 2010 using the same methods, and will include behavior questionnaires. We will pay close attention to the electronic trail counter performance in 2010. The next PPV counts are scheduled for 2011." /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/carriage Roads/
