The brook trout population of Echo Lake was studied for age, growth, food, and predation. In 1956, Echo Lake and Lurvey Brook were treated with 1500 gallons of rotenone to kill all fish species. In 1957 42,562 Brook Trout were stocked (7562 were legal size, 35,000 were fingerlings). American Eel, Banded Killifish, Ninespine Sticklebacks, and Brook Trout became established in Echo Lake after reclamation. Population studies of Brook Trout were conducted. Creel censuses, gill netting, tributary trapping, electrofishing, and feeding studies were conducted. Age, growth, and predators of the fish were also noted. Stomach analysis of Brook Trout noted 'Diptera, Trichiptera, Plecoptera, Coleoptera, Ephemeroptera, Hemiptera, Odonata, Megaloptera, Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Homoptera, Orthoptera, Oligochaeta, Isopoda, Gastropoda, Chilopoda, Diplopoda, Arachnida, Mammals, and Fish'. /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Echo Lake/Lurvey Brook/
