FIELD WORK: 1933. BIRDS: In 1933 there were roughly 1000 pairs of Herring Gulls on The Hop and a 'few dozen' on Long Porcupine Island. Mendall conducted detailed observations on the Long Porcupine and The Hop colonies, examining stomach contents of a number of Herring Gulls, Laughing Gulls, and Common Terns to determine the impact of these species on larval lobster abundance. INVERTEBRATES: Conducted net tows adjacent to a number of islands to assess the abundance of larval lobsters.
