FIELD WORK: June 1996 - May 1997. Studied reproductive and nesting ecology of female painted turtles at Aunt Betty Pond in Acadia National Park. Measured nest temperature, hydric potential, developmental success of deposited eggs. Found differences between nests in natural nesting areas and nests in the gravel carriage roads. Also measured egg size relative to female turtle size, number of clutches produced in the season, and predation rates.
