This project looks at the comparative dynamics of jack pine and it's co-dominants to determine the viability of the populations in the stands observed under their present conditions. FLORA - VASCULAR: The jack pine stands on Cadillac Mountain and on Schoodic Head are evaluated to determine age structure and dynamics. The Cadillac Mountain stand is regenerating, has high growth rates, and is expanding into suitable habitat. The Schoodic Head stand is older, has low regeneration, lower growth rates, greater mortality, higher serotiny, and is not regenerating into adjacent habitat. Concludes that the jack pine on Schoodic Head are not likely to persist without external disturbance /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Cadillac Mountain/SCHOODIC PENINSULA/Schoodic Head/
