'The objectives of this 3-yr study, initiated in Fall 1990, are to 1) inventory and quantify the major sources of nutrients to the system, and 2) to document the ecological status of the Bass Harbor Marsh estuary.''There is some speculation that over the past several years macroalgae biomass in the Bass Harbor Marsh ecosystem has dramatically increased and the brook trout recreational fishery has declined. This research project is designed to 1) determine the major sources of nutrients to the system that may be contributing to these ecological changes, and 2) provide a baseline of information on the habitat quality of the system, at least with respect to fishes, benthic organisms, submerged vegetation and water quality. This Progress Report reviews the research conducted in the Bass Harbor Marsh system from September 1990 through February 1992. Information presented in this Progress Report is preliminary.
