BIRDS: From 1936-47 Peregrines nested on the Precipice on Champlain Mountain and on Eagle Cliffs on St. Sauveur Mountain. From 1954-56, the Champlain Mountain nest site was still active but St. Sauveur Mountain was not. A third suspected eyrie at Beech Cliffs was proven incorrect. In 1980 two adult and two young Peregrines were observed on Champlain Mountain and were assumed to have nested there. Searching on Mount Desert Island for Great Horned Owls revealed owls near Bar Harbor and near St. Sauveur Mountain while none were found near Eagle Lake or Jordan Pond /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Conners Nubble/Enoch Mountain/Jordan Cliffs/Precipice Cliffs/St. Sauveur Mountain/ GIS-CATEGORY 3 ; Birds: Gives old eyrie locations and owl locations
