A report on the forestry activities in Acadia National Park. Includes reports on invasive forest insect control, fire prevention, and other forestry activities. FIRE: Ten reportable fires occurred in 1947. This report notes size and cause of each. Historically, the primary cause of fire on Mount Desert Island is smoking. The catastrophic fire of 1947 burned 17,188 acres on Mount Desert Island: 8750 acres of which were on park land. This fire is believed to have begun in an open dump. MAMMALS - DEER: Cursorily presents April 1947 browse survey data. Notes a small increase in deer population. INSECTS & ARACHNIDS: Contains insect damage reports and control measures used on Mount Desert Island.
