Summarizes results of Spring 1956 browse survey. Notes that greatest browsing pressure is taking place in the area of the 1947 burn and that it is experiencing heavy browse. Qualitatively presents levels of browse pressure i.e. notes whether it is light, moderate or heavy, at 22 transects as determined from 1954 and 1956 surveys. Only 4 of 22 transects showed a decrease in browse from 1954 to 1956, 10 showed an increase, others unchanged. Reports that supply of winter browse on the burned area is not adequate to maintain present numbers. Also presents a table showing yearly number and cause of deer mortality on Mount Desert Island 1938-41, 1954-56. The author uses browse data and increased number of mortalities to support the belief that there had been a substantial increase in deer numbers between 1954-56, and that a large part of the increase has taken place in the burned over areas.
