Folger DC, Drury WH, College of the Atlantic. 1986. Acadia National Park Colonial Waterbird Inventory: 1985. Bar Harbor, ME

FIELD WORK: Summer 1985. BIRDS: Surveyed all park islands to determine the status of Black Guillemots, Double-crested Cormorants, Great Cormorants, Common Eider, Leach's Storm Petrels, Herring Gulls, Greater Black-backed Gulls, Laughing Gulls, Arctic Terns, Common Terns, Roseate Terns, Great Blue Herons, Osprey, and Bald Eagles. Information gathered for each island includes: review of available historical information on nesting seabirds, a description of the vegetation and physical features, and identification of threats and potential threats to waterbirds. The islands that contain the most valuable seabird colonies are Schoodic Island, Heron Island, Little Duck Island, Ship Island, Trumpet Island, Green Island, Egg Rock, Bald Island, West Torrey Island, Little Spoon Island, Great Spoon Island, Shabby Island, and Hardwood Island. For some islands, maps are hand-drawn showing nesting areas. MAMMALS: Notes that the muskrat population on Heron Island is believed to be unique to outer coastal islands and warrants further study /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ISLANDS/Baker Island/Bald Porcupine Island/Bar Island/Heron Island/Little Moose Island/Schoodic Island/Sheep Porcupine Island/Drum Island/Egg Rock/Green Island/Green Island Ledge/Ship Island/Trumpet Island/Babbige Island/Babson Island/Bald Island/Barred Islands/Bean Island/Birch Island/Black Island/Buckle Island/Butter Island/Burnt Island/Chato Island/Duck Island/Dumpling Island/Eastern Mark Island/East Torrey Island/Great Spoon Island/Greening Island/Gooseberry Island/Hardwood Island/Hat Island/Heart Island/Hog Island/Johns Island/Jordan Island/Lamp Island/Little Duck Island/Little Babson Island/Little Spoon Island/Little Gott Island/Moose Island/Opechee Island/Orono Island/Pell Island/Pond Island/Preble Island/Round Island/Rolling Island/Scrag Island/Shabby Island/Sheep Island/Spruce Island/Sutton Island/The Ledges/The Hub/West Sister Island/West Torrey Island/ GIS-CATEGORY 2 ; Birds: Contains a list of species found on each island visited.
