SOILS: Campgrounds at Baxter State Park and Acadia National Park were studied. Describes soil and vegetation in sample plots and relates these to construction and use of the campgrounds. At Seawall, 4 sample plots and 1 control plot were established. Each plot was composed of 12 milacre sub-plots. Recorded all live trees and DBH for each large plot. Recorded the number of trees and shrubs, percent of each groundcover type, depth of organic matter, erosion, litter, and soil sample (sand and clay content) for each milacre sub-plot. Makes recommendations to reduce the impact of campers on soil and vegetation in the campgrounds /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Seawall
