FIELD WORK: October 17 - November 14, 1995. 'I measured mercury concentrations in spruce and beech throughfall and open field precipitation collected at Acadia National Park from late October to early November, 1995. The highest mercury concentrations were from the spruce canopy, followed by the beech canopy, and the open field precipitation (averages: 28.9 ng/L, 12.4 ng/L and 4.1 ng/L, respectively). Dry deposition increases the input of mercury to the ground surface. The magnitude of that role depends on the presence or absence of a canopy and type of canopy.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ACADIA NATIONAL PARK/
