INSECTS & ARACHNIDS: In 1964 Larch Sawfly infestation was discovered at Ship Harbor. Aerial surveys revealed that infestations extended from Seawall westerly and northwesterly. In 1965, 185 acres of Larch from Seawall to Ship Harbor were sprayed with a mixture of Malathion and No. 2 fuel oil. 'Aerial spraying of 185 acres of tamarack at Acadia National Park, Maine in 1965 gave excellent control of the larch sawfly. Tow applications were made of one-half pound Malathion per gallon of oil solution per acre; the first on July 7, the second on July 27. There were indications that one application timed properly might have been sufficient.
