FIELD WORK: August 20-23, 1938. Notes that summer browse was not excessive but that Parkman and Sargent Mountains, as well as The Triad experienced moderate to heavy winter browsing. Two generally impalatable species, gray birch and an Ilex species were noticeably browsed, indicating overbrowsing. The author remarks that signs of overbrowsing are evident island-wide and that ground hemlock has been almost totally exterminated as a result.
