Shaw RL. 1985. A glance at the history of deer poaching on M.D.I. : 'harvest the crop'. National Park Service
A history of poaching on Mount Desert Island. Very little documentation for many of the statements about trends in deer population. Based on locals' memories. 'The purpose of this paper is to develop a general history of Mount Desert Island's white-tail deer herd and the influences upon it. Among the many causes of population fluxuation, poaching will be the main focus of attention. Information for this paper was collected through various personal interviews of life-long residents of MDI, as well a reference materials found at Acadia National Park's Library located at Park Headquarters on McFarland Hill.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND
