'The Pleistocene deposits of Mount Desert Island include non-stratified drift, stratified sand and gravel, and glacio-marine silty clay. This marine unit, generally found beneath the stratified deposits, is probably a correlative with the Presumpscot Formation described by Bloom (1960) in southwestern Maine. Extensive late-glacial emerged shoreline features are present at various elevations which may mark levels that correlate with other levels in Maine.' 'The present study was undertaken with the purpose of defining the late-glacial emerged shoreline features on Mount Desert Island and adjacent areas. Particulary the study was concerned with establishing the altitude of the late-glacial upper marine limit on Mount Desert Island.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/SCHOODIC PENINSULA/
