'An assessment of historical and potential peregrine falcon eyries in Maine was conducted over the three month period, August 17-November 18, 1983.' 'Objectives of the project were: (1) to assess the suitability of former peregrine falcon nesting areas in Maine as potential reintroduction sites, (2) to locate sites suitable for hacking, but with no previous peregrine history, and (3) to outline peregrine hacking methods in preparation for releases in Maine during 1984. Methods for hacking or releasing birds into the wild are discussed with recommendations for Maine.' BIRDS: A literature search was completed to document historical Peregrine eyries in Maine. St. Sauveur Mountain, and Champlain Mountain had historic Peregrine Falcon eyries on Mount Desert Island. Beech Cliff is also noted as an historic eyrie (however, see Duley and Drury, 1984).
