BIRDS: Indicates the valuable wetland areas for waterfowl on Mount Desert Island are: Fresh Meadow, Cranberry Hill, Bear Brook, Salisbury Cove, Aunt Betty Pond, Little Round Pond, Ripple Pond, Somesville, Pretty Marsh, Murphy Swamp, Mitchell Marsh, Brook Harbor Marsh, and Islesford. Also lists the known Eider nesting islands: Bar Island, Trumpet Island, Ship Island, Schoodic Island, and Sheep Island. Bald Eagle nests are located on Thomas Bay, Little Round Pond, Bar Island-Somes Sound, Bass Harbor, Preble Island, Bald Porcupine Island, Hog Island, Jordan Island, Schoodic Island, and Ironbound Island. Lists important islands for birds. Winter waterfowl surveys are summarized for Frenchman Bay 1970-1974. MAMMALS - DEER: Gives the average annual deer harvest/square mile by town (1968-1972). Mount Desert is listed with an average of .51 and Tremont is .52.
