MAMMALS - DEER: Overview of the reduction program. Notes over-browse of vegetation 1956-68. Overbrowsing of winter food was given as the reason for implementation of reduction program in 1960. From 1960 to the 1967-68 season when program was terminated, roughly 900 deer were removed. Despite this, some of the winter range continued to be over used /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND
