FIELD WORK: 1934 and 1935. BIRDS: Long Porcupine Island supports a large heronry (Great Blue and Black-crowned Night Herons). Reports the results of a January bird census for Mount Desert Island - listing species and approximate numbers. 1100 Black Ducks were counted from the Porcupine Islands. Also gives lighthouse bird kills along the coast. MAMMALS - DEER: Estimates 200 deer on Mount Desert Island, approximately 50 in the Park, and approximately 75 beaver, 10 in the Park. Notes population fluctuations for a number of mammals; that Red and Brown bats were collected from Mount Desert Island; and that Schoodic has large numbers of varying hares and red squirrels.
