Sand Beach in Acadia National Park is ranked first of all calcareous beaches in Maine and is the only beach nominated for National Natural Landmark evaluation because it has the highest volume of carbonate sand and is the only beach whose entire beach face and dunes consists entirely of calcareous sand /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Sand Beach
