'The locations and frequencies of deer/automobile accidents on Mount Desert Island were obtained and analyzed. The exact sites of accidents were gathered from island police departments, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and Acadia National Park. Although accidents occurred over the entire island, three major areas of concentration were noted. The relation to deer yards, deer beds, and the seasonal distribution of each accident was graphically displayed in maps created by Arc-Info Inc. Deer crossing signs need to be posed in the areas of high accident frequency. Further studies are needed to establish how road conditions affect the frequency of deer/auto accidents.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/
