'Two first-order streams within the Hadlock Pond watershed, Acadia National Park, were sampled at least seasonally from 1982 through 1984.' 'Data collected includes measurements of: pH, HCl, alkalinity, Na:Cl, Mg:Na, sulfates and nitrates. Results of water chemistry studies suggest that pH declines of as much as 1.5 units were caused primarily by HCl derived from soil exchange processes, rather than H2SO4 or HNO3 from precipitation. Steep slopes on granite bedrock and thin spodic soils contribute to low DOC and low buffering capacity of the surface waters.' /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND/Upper Hadlock Pond/Lower Hadlock Pond/Hadlock Brook/
