MAMMALS: Notes that he trapped small mammals (in the early 1960's) on the same trapping lines as Calhoun (in the late 1940's, a year or two after the 1947 fire). Calhoun found that the field mice had moved into the burned areas and displaced the deer mice. Mr. Onion found that 10 years after the fire, deer mice were beginning to come back and replace the field mice. Mr. Onion recalls 20-50% of his catches in the burned area were deer mice. /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /MOUNT DESERT ISLAND
