The article highlights some of the issues that the astronomers along the Arizona-Mexico border face with regards to Border Patrol operations. The astronomers at Whipple Observatory in Arizona are in constant conflict with the Border Patrol over whose operations take precedence. The astronomers want completely dark skies in order to conduct research. However, the Border Patrol want illuminated skies to protect the border. The two groups attempt to cooperate with each other but often are returning to their respective sides after reaching an understanding.
