Such was my introduction to Heinmot Hihhih, "White Thunder" or "White Lightning," better known as Hemene Moxmox, "Yellow Wolf," Nez Perce warrior of 1877. It was the beginning of a friendship which proved inductive of this volume. With his wife, small son, and other members of the Chief Joseph band of exiles, he was at this time on the annual "trek" to the Yakima Valley hop fields.
