Invasive non-native plants are currently threatening natural and cultural resources at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site (SAHI) on Long Island, New York. This plan follows adaptive weed and integrated plant management strategies for protecting these resources from the threat of invasive non-native plants. A total of 30 invasive non-native plants were identified as occurring at SAHI. Seventeen of these are considered highly invasive and are targeted in this management plan. Populations of these targeted species were mapped and prioritized for management. Five natural areas within SAHI were identified as having a high priority for conservation. These areas contain old forests and one NY State endangered species. They are a significant part of natural and cultural resources at SAHI. Where feasible, this plan calls for the eradication or containment of the targeted species in the high priority areas. Preventing new infestations of the targeted species is also critical. Control techniques are outlined for the targeted invasive plant species in the areas of high conservation priority. Ongoing monitoring protocols are presented to assess management actions and to assist in ongoing modifications of this plan.
