Nez Perce Joseph: An account of his ancestors, his lands, his confederates, his enemies, his murders, his war, his pursuit and capture

Howard OO. 1881. Nez Perce Joseph: An account of his ancestors, his lands, his confederates, his enemies, his murders, his war, his pursuit and capture. Lee and Shepard Publishers. Boston, Massachussetts

"It occurred to me that some account of an Indian tribe, at peace and at war, might be interesting and useful, especially to readers in the Eastern States. The people of the east consider the Indian problem more dispassionately, but are likely to receive colored or false impressions, on account of their distance from actual Indians, and from the scenes of conflict...while the unhappy effects of superstition and ignorance appear among the renegades and 'non-treaties.' The results have been murder, loss of country, and almost extermination."
