NETWORKING FOR PRESERVATION OF ARCHIVES

Carmen J. 2007. NETWORKING FOR PRESERVATION OF ARCHIVES

This paper is an assignment for the Emporia State University (ESU) Archives in the Park graduate course and includes interviews with original organizers, students, and community members who have participated in this program. This one week course offers students many aspects of preservation and archiving skills that are applied to collections specific for the National Park Service (NPS) and other organizations of the surrounding community. This paper presents an introduction of the course, its history over the past nine years, and a study of networking components within this academic program. Using the networking strategy from this program, a proposal is included of how to use this course as an example to extend like programs to other communities across the country.
