Appalachian National Scenic Trail, APPA_HUC12_HUC10_Shell_AEA
National Park Service, Northeast Temperate NetworkFred Dieffenbach. Appalachian National Scenic Trail, APPA_HUC12_HUC10_Shell_AEA
Dataset defines a "zone" around the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (A.T.) that is intended to define an area of interest. The boundary is NOT an ownership map, but is instead a zone around the A.T. that can be used to identify existing data or other information related to the A.T. or that may be useful for describing A.T. resources. The boundary of the dataset was established by selecting all HUC10 watershed that are within 5 statute miles of the A.T. land base. There are 236 HUC10 watersheds within this zone. All 236 watersheds were subsequently merged into a single polygon to create the "shell." This layer is further divided by the inclusion of HUC12 "sub-watershed" lines. There are 1217 HUC12 elements
