Knowledgebase on-line bibliographic and dataset catalogue: maintenance and upgrade of AcadiaScience.org web site
Nelson SJ, Vaux PD, Cradrock J. 2010. Knowledgebase on-line bibliographic and dataset catalogue: maintenance and upgrade of AcadiaScience.org web site
Introduction: "This project involves the re-design of, and data updates for, the Web site www.acadiascience.org. The goal of this site is to serve bibliographic records, data and other information for Acadia National Park (ACAD) to resource managers, scientists, and the public. For this project, we uploaded recent bibliographic records (provided by ACAD staff) and implemented as series of site re-design items designed to enhance the ways in which users interact with the site. A new interactive maps page was added to the site, one that dynamically (i.e. automatically) displays all datasets and documents for which maps (Google Maps or Google Earth projects) are available. The acadiascience.org Web site is a partner site of KnowledgeBase (KB: www.gulfofmane.org/kb). KB is an on-line catalogue of data sets and documents associated with the Gulf of Maine and its watershed. KB is the ‘hub’ in a hub and spoke system (Figure 1). Many of the items in the KB library form part of one or more Special Collections (Figure 2). Currently available collections include Acadia National Park, freshwater biodiversity, Maine lakes, urban streams, diadromous fish, and Boston Harbor Islands. The portal (the “spoke”) for ACAD records is www.acadiascience.org. While all Acadia-related records can be accessed from this site, the same records are also available from the KB hub." /STUDY LOCATIONS:/ /ACADIA NATIONAL PARK/
