Four hundred permanent forest vegetation monitoring plots were established across the eleven parks in the Nation Capital Region Network. The parks have a diverse flora consistent with the wide variety of forest habitats at varying stages of growth. Forest structure and plant community composition data is summarized. As several parks, namely Antietam National Battlefield, Catoctin Mountain Park, Manassas National Battlefield Park, Monocacy National Battlefield, Rock Creek Park and parts of Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, are either managing or considering managing deer populations, this report gives special attention to forest vegetation measurements that could indicate negative impacts of white-tailed deer.
