Grand Canyon Wildlands Council, Inc. was funded by the Grand CanyonConservation Fund to examine riparian restoration options in the Colorado Rivercorridor. Grand Canyon Wildlands identified two challenges inriparian stewardship in the river corridor: 1) decline of Goodding’s willow (Salicaceae:Salix gooddingii) and Fremont cottonwood (Salicaceae: Populus fremontii) along theColorado River, and 2) decline of Fremont cottonwood (Salicaceae: Populus fremontii) inDeer Creek valley due to human-caused fire.
