The forum, Research and Education for Managing the Coastal Resources of the Olympic Peninsula, conducted November 16-17, 1993, at Grays Harbor College, as well as this report, represent initial steps in the development of a coastal marine program for the Olympic Natural Resources Center. The overall purpose of the forum was to develop a more complete understanding of what research, education, and coordination capacities are needed to effectively support the coastal resrouce management decision-making process. We used an approach that we hoped would provide an opportunity for a productive exchange of different perspectives on this issue by interested parties, in a neutral setting.
