This Standard Operating Procedure describes conducting an intermediate-intensity time-constrained visual encounter survey for amphibians and sign, and secondary observations of reptiles and sign. All field personnel must read SOP 3.1.5 – Safe handling of amphibians and reptiles in Southeast Coast Network parks (Byrne and DeVivo 2012) and meet the reptile and amphibian identification training requirements set forth in SOP 1.4.23 – Amphibian and reptile identification training (Byrne and Smrekar 2012) prior to data collection. The user manuals for the digital psychrometer and the soil-moisture meter must also be read (Extech 2011, Spectrum Technologies 2010).
