Remote Sonde Deployment and Water Sample Collection at Fixed Stations

Rinehart A and Dingle JL. 2012. Remote Sonde Deployment and Water Sample Collection at Fixed Stations

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlines steps in shipping a pre-calibrated sonde to parks to be deployed by park staff or other partnership personnel. This SOP was written in an effort to increase the efficiency of the fixed station monitoring program by reducing the amount of time and cost associated with traveling by SECN staff. Prior to implementing this SOP, consultations with sonde equipment engineers confirmed that the logistics required for implementation would not reduce the quality of data collected with instruments shipped to remote parks (Mike Lizotte, YSI engineer, personal comm.). This SOP is written primarily as a guide to remote staff and for treatment of sonde prior to shipping from SECN headquarters. After receiving sondes and samples from remote parks, tasks will follow procedures set forth in SOPs 1.2.9.Fixed Station Deployment and Retrieval and SOP 1.2.12 Data Entry and Certification. This SOP is modeled after the water quality monitoring program established by the National Estuarine Research Reserve Program (Wenner and Geist 2001).
