Fixed-station water sample collection

Rinehart A and Dingle JL. 2012. Fixed-station water sample collection. National Park Service

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlines steps for collecting water quality samples at sites in the SECN fixed station network. These instructions are designed to provide guidance for the collection of samples at a remote site and shipment to contract labs for determination of nutrient concentrations and chlorophyll a levels. Sonde deployment and retrievals are usually done in conjunction with water sample collection and follows procedures set forth in part of SOP 1.2.9 Fixed Station Data Sonde Deployment and Retrieval. This SOP is modeled after the water quality monitoring program established by the National Estuarine Research Reserve Program.
